Litter Picking

The children in Dosbarth Gele have been litter picking

It is very important to look after the local environment

They went for a walk down a local path and found lots of dropped litter

They did a splendid job of picking it all up

Luckily, they bumped into some other very hard workers...

...who kindly took the litter away in their van

Visit From Darren Millar AM

Darren Millar AM heard about our new garden area

He met Mrs Stanco who told him all about what we have been doing

He was super impressed with what he saw

Autumn Gardening

Mrs Stanco was on hand again to help with some gardening

After returning for the new school year our garden area was in need of some TLC

We planted seeds and picked some juicy tomatoes

The seeds were planted in near little rows

We are really lucky to have Mrs Stanco and her knowledge

Ysgol Y Foryd Secure ‘Keep Wales Tidy’ Grant

Our school has recently secured a grant to improve our outdoor area

Gwyl Roche from ‘Keep Wales Tidy’ has made numerous raised borders

Our children worked hard to plant seeds

It was great fun to be helping to make our new garden area look amazing

Mrs Stanco gave up her time to help and to share her eco expertise

We had trees to plant so we had to dig big holes

Tyres were used to protect our new trees

Teamwork was very important

We had to make sure the holes were big enough

The lovely sunshine made the day even better

We are all very proud of how our new garden is looking

March 2021 - Ysgol Y Foryd are awarded the Eco Schools Platinum award

March 2021 - Sprucing Up Our Front Garden Area

We decided to add a bamboo fence to our front garden

We helped to unpack the new fence

The new fence was secured in place with the help of the children

The new fence looks amazing

We also planted flowers, but first we needed soil

We had to barrow it from another part of school

It was hard work

‘Bee bombs’ will grow into flowers to attract the bees

It was a great team effort

Sept 2020 - Produce From Our Eco Garden

The Year 2 children have been looking after our garden

They picked fruit to eat

It was great to taste the raspberries

Fruit helps to keep us healthy

We take good care of our garden area

Sept 2020 - World Car Free Day

We took part in ‘World Car Free Day’. We discussed why we felt it is important to try to reduce the number of cars on the road. We all made an effort to walk, cycle or scoot to school on this day.

Parents sent pictures of their children walking to school

Our classes made graphs of how they travelled to school

They showed how we came to school on the day

We also made good use our bikes in school

Jan 2020 - ’Dragon Bags’ Clothes Recycling

Dragon Bags is a free fundraising scheme that helps schools across Wales raise funds through textile recycling. Instead of throwing our old clothes away at home, we bring them to school and put them in the big box.
