Read Write Inc (RWI)
What is Read Write Inc.
The Read Write Inc. programme is for primary school children who are learning to read.
It enables every child to become a confident and fluent reader at the first attempt. Every child who completes Read Write Inc. learns to read fluently and confidently.
Why does it work?
All staff (teachers and teaching assistants) are trained together by a RWI trainer who has taught and managed the programme. We are currently having Development Days as we want to keep up to date with the training and the programme. Mrs Williams currently leads Read, Write, Inc in school.
The children go in to their Read, Write, Inc groups for a session each day. The children are grouped according to their reading level and this will help make them make the progress they need to continue on their reading journey.
The way Read, Write Inc is designed is to learn sounds in a order which will allow them to read sets of words as they gain more and more sound knowledge.
We learn the sounds in this order:
Set 1: m a s d t, i n p g o, c k u b, f e l h sh, r j v y w, th z ch qu x ng nk
Set 2: ay, ee, igh, ow, oo, oo, ar, or, air, ir, ou, oy
We will be sending videos on Class Dojo to share with you the sounds your child has been learning so that you can continue with learning at home.
Handwriting:
We learn some special phrases called 'mnemonics' to help us form the letters properly.
